For Black young adults, structural racism, discriminatory lending practices, and limited access to traditional financial services have created significant barriers to financial security. In the Bay Area, where the cost of living continues to rise, these challenges are magnified, putting young adults at a higher risk of financial insecurity and limiting their opportunities to build wealth. MyMoney Moves financial mentoring aims to change this by providing critical support to Black young adults, ages 18 – 26, in Oakland and San Francisco. Financial mentoring can be a powerful tool—providing young adults with personalized guidance to help manage their finances, set achievable financial goals, build financial access plans, and access safe financial products. MyMoney Moves can help individuals improve their financial well-being and also contribute to a broader movement for racial and economic justice.
